Working in Swedish Lapland

Around the fire

In 2023, I worked a seasonal job at Aurora Mountain Lodge (AML) in the heart of Swedish Lapland, a place of stunning natural beauty and endless winter wonder. During my time there, I had the privilege of documenting the incredible crew throughout the season, capturing moments that showcased the bond we shared and the breathtaking surroundings we called home. This particular set of photos highlights one of those memorable moments, gathering around a fire, sharing a meal, and getting to know one another.

Nomi

Among the crew, one person stood out to me, Nomi. She quickly became one of my favorite people to photograph, not just because of her radiant energy but also because of the light she brought to every moment. Nomi is someone who is perpetually smiling and laughing, as these photos vividly show. Her warmth is infectious, and she has a way of making everyone feel at ease. Beyond her outgoing nature, Nomi is incredibly smart, genuine, and down-to-earth, one of the most authentic people I’ve ever met. She has a deep love for the outdoors and a remarkable talent for writing, making her someone who constantly inspires.

Adventures

One unforgettable day, some of the crew traveled by snowmobile to the top of Nunasvaara, a mountain with a panoramic view of the Arctic wilderness. As we stood at the summit, a stunning sundog, a rainbow-like halo caused by the refraction of sunlight through ice crystals, appeared in the sky. It was a magical sight, and naturally, everyone wanted to capture the moment with the ethereal light behind them. I did my best to photograph them in that extraordinary setting, trying to preserve the beauty of the landscape and the joy of the crew in a single frame.

Christmas

Christmas at AML was another magical experience. We gathered inside a lavvu, a traditional Sami dwelling, sitting around a crackling fire. The air was filled with the comforting aroma of glögg, a warm spiced drink, and we shared bread topped with melted cheese. It was a simple yet unforgettable celebration of warmth, community, and the unique traditions of the North.

Looking back, my time at Aurora Mountain Lodge wasn’t just about the breathtaking landscapes, it was about the people, the connections, and the shared moments that made every day special.
